Welcome to the Joe Friday Profile!
Some fun facts about Joe Friday:
He found his first geocache on December 16, 2006.
Joe Friday discovered geocaching when he broke his leg and was bed bound for 3 months. His parents geocached and he started to solve Mystery caches and decided that if he was going to solve them, he should go find them.
Joe Friday’s favorite types of caches are the Mystery and Webcam type.
He is partial to the Large cache size.
As of 7/19/2023 Joe Friday has found a total of 16,182 geocaches (See his profile for a breakdown)
Joe Friday has added 202 caches to our playing board and has acquired 1,290 Favorite Points on those hides.
Finding Mission 9: Tunnel of LIght – Ape Cache (GC1169) in Washington State (where you walk through a long dark tunnel) is Joe Friday’s most noteworthy geocaching accomplishment and the Ape Cache is also his all-time favorite cache. He made 4 attempts to get to the cache before he succeeded. Despite his handicap, he persevered and now has a smiley on the map for the Ape Cache!
Joe Friday has left 5 different signature items behind in caches for future finders to enjoy. He has also created signature items for various Event Caches that he has hosted.
Hiding geocaches and hosting events get him out and about. He has hosted 3 Mega Events in Colorado (GeoCoinfest, GeoWoodstock, and the Maze Exhibit). About 5,000 cachers from all over the world attended his GeoWoodstock Event.
Joe Friday draws inspiration from this quote from Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
If Joe Friday could tell GC HQ one thing it would be “Great Job, Everyone.”
